What Happens At Counselling?

Firstly, you need to know you are in a safe environment and all discussions are confidential. I value and respect your time and your privacy.

I will explore your current situation and how it is affecting your life. This new relationship is based on trust and confidentiality.

I will not provide advice, nor be judgemental. I will not push my own agenda or share my values and beliefs, and our relationship will always be a professional and caring one.

A range of tools and strategies are used throughout the process, depending on your particular needs. These tools will give you the skills you need to feel better when these situations challenge you, and you can use these tools even after our sessions are complete.

At our initial session, we will discuss what brings you to counselling and what the contributing factors may be. I will be looking for commitment from you, to take action to achieve the desired outcome. This could involve goal setting, or a strategy to make progress. You must be an active participant in this process, and this will help you reach your goals.

There will come a time when counselling needs to cease. This will be planned in advance to provide a positive conclusion and not cause any stress as you move into putting everything you have learnt into practice. It may mean a final evaluation of your circumstances, as to how you have progressed. It may mean a referral to another specialist or it may leave the door open should you wish to return in the future.

If you are ready and willing, motivated and committed to achieving your goals, let’s get working.
