What is Counselling?

Counselling is the provision of professional assistance and guidance, where a person is heard and supported within their issue.  It is a space where people can recognise their own strengths, values, and abilities to move towards the life they want according to their desires and outcomes.

Counselling is an intentional conversation about a variety of subjects such as relationships, events that have occurred, issues with depression and/or anxiety etc.

What brings you to Counselling?

Whatever brings you to counselling, it is okay for you to talk about it.  We will discuss what you need to talk about and I will be guided by your best outcomes when we move into how to change the current situation.

What to expect in a Counselling session.

Counselling is generally a brief intervention, as it supports people to deal with events and emotions in a present day context. Sessions are generally for 60-75 minutes.  At our first session, we will discuss the boundaries of confidently and sign a counselling agreement so we are both on the same page in regards to each other’s responsibilities in and out of our sessions.

As we near the end of the first session, I will have a therapeutic plan about how best to meet the needs you have.  We can then work out this plan to best meet your needs to reach your outcomes.

What my role is as your Counsellor.

My roles as your counsellor is to encourage you to develop self-awareness and insights into your own patterns, behaviours and cycles and how these impact your daily living, relationships and life experiences.
For example, you may be someone who is struggling and it is impacting your wellbeing maybe even your mood. It might seem like an overwhelming situation that is causing you difficulty in your everyday life. This is where counselling can have an impact because together, we can look at the issue and put in place tools and strategies that will support you to move towards and begin getting the outcomes in life that you want.

Drugs and Alcohol – in and out of the workplace.

Drugs and alcohol can have a serious impact on people’s lives and livelihood.  In Australia, as with most other countries, drugs and alcohol are used with frequency throughout the community.  Drugs and alcohol can lead to a variety of direct and indirect costs to our personal and professional lives.  A healthy relationship with these is a vital aspect of everyone’s overall safety – in and out of the work environment.
